Abstract

Regulating.-To regulate according to load the effective head on a water turbine 6 having an enclosed supply conduit 1, a branch waste pipe 2 is provided leading to a diffuser 4 having outlet ports controlled by a s l i d i n g cylindrical gate valve 5. Adjustable guide vanes 10, 11, Fig. 3, on opposite sides of the turbine runner 9 may be turned by means of a regulating shaft 14 to compensate for variations in velocity. In a modification, one diffuser 4 with a valve 5 serves as a by-pass for a number of turbines.
