Abstract
170,336. Paterson, J. H., Tulloch, T. G., an'd Smith, D. J. June 18, 1920. Plant.-In a suction gas plant installation gas is drawn from a producer A by a fan E and delivered to an engine or other apparatus through a pipe G' the gas being mixed with air to form a combustible mixture, at G. Scrubbers Care located between the fan and the producer. To ensure the passage of air and steam, through the producer when the supply of gas is throttled by closing the valve F<2>, gas is delivered to the atmosphere through a valve F<1>. According to a modified construction, the scrubbers C are dispensed with and the gas from the pipe E' may be returned through a by-pass to the suction side of the fan when the valve F<2> is more or less closed. A valve in the by-pass, and the valve F<2> may be connected together to move simultaneously. A further modification is described in which the air and gas mixing-device G is located on the suction side of the fan. The fan shown in Fig. 4 comprises a hollow valve E<4> in which collects tar and other impurities thrown off by the fan blades. A wire cage or gauze E<6> may surround the fan blades, and a baffle may be provided at x.
