167,020. Brooke, H. L. May 15, 1920. Valves.-A main piston d is connected to a crank set in advance of a crank to which is secured a pump piston c. Air is compressed in the crank casing c and combustible mixture in the crank casing f, the charges being transferred to the cylinders through piston-controlled ports h, g. The two cylinders remain in open communication through the port k. A modified construction is described in which a sleeve valve surrounds the main piston and controls the air-inlet and exhaust ports and the transfer ports k. In this construction, crank-case compression of the combustible mixture is dispensed with. If preferred, the pistons of the pump and working cylinders may have separate crank shafts connected together by toothed gearing.
