Abstract
164,518. Moore, M. S., and Jenkins, B. L. March 15, 1920. Moulds; tamping-machines. -The mould is provided with a removable pallet having a ribbed surface, which in conjunction with plunger bars coacting with the ribs forms projections and recesses on the block formed. In the production of blocks ribbed and recessed on one side and of a curved form on the other side, the mould-box 4, Fig. 8, comprises side walls with renewable top lips 8a, 7<a>. The lip 7a is hinged and can be locked in its closed position by a bar 16 pivoted to the box and provided with shoulders 16<b>, to bear on the lip. The box has an open base with bars 9 to support the pallet 10, which is ribbed on its upper surface B<2> to coact with the plunger bars 12 which slide in through holes in the side of the mould-box over the surface of the pallet. The bars 12 may have ribs 12<a> and recesses 12<b> and are detachably mounted on a cross-head 13, Fig. 2. The cross-head slides on bars 1<a> and is operated by a crank handle 24 and rack 27. The material in the mould is tamped by devices 14, 15 provided with blades 14<d>, 15d and handles 14<c>, 15<c>, by which they can be swung about their pivots and brought against the material in the mould. The tampers may be mounted so that they can be swung about two axes at right-angles, so that they can be brought vertically against the surface of the material. After the material has been tamped and its surface smoothed in any desired manner, the surface B<1> may be marked by blades 21 carried by a frame 20 hinged to the frame carrying the mould-box. To remove the block from the mould-box, the lip 7a is turned back, the plunger-bars are removed, and a device 31 with prongs 32 is raised in guides in the main frame by a pedal 34, to lift -the pallet 10 out of the box. The apertures in the box side through which the plunger-bar slides are provided with shaped blocks 29, Fig. 7, adjustably secured by bolts 36 and renewable side plates 30 secured by screws 30<a>.
