Abstract

640,519. Shaking-machines for moulding concrete blocks. SAND, S. July 2, 1947, No. 17463. Convention date, July 3, 1946. [Class 87 (ii)] A machine for moulding hollow concrete blocks comprises a stand 1, a mould box which may be turned over sideways through 180 degrees, and withdrawable cores projecting upwards into the box, and is characterised by vibrating means which act upon a frame which is vertically movable in the stand, in which frame the mould box rests and to which it is hinged by one of its edges. The frame may hold two mould boxes 7, 8 which are hinged at 9, 10 to two opposite sides of it, two sets of cores being then provided. The vibrating means comprise a horizontal shaft 14 with a crank handle 15 at one end on which shaft two wheels 16, 17 are secured having ratchet-shaped teeth adapted to co-operate with studs 18, 19 fixed to opposite sides of the frame. The studs, which do not reach the bottoms of the notches, can be adjusted vertically. The cores 20 for the mould box 8 are fixed to a plate 22 mounted on vertical rods 24 to which is secured a bar 32 pressed upwards by springs 30, and the core plate 22 can be tightened against the bottom of the frame 2 by a wedge-shaped lock-plate 40 which can be pushed under the edge of the plate by a slider 37 sliding on a rail parallel to the shaft 14. The cores for the mould box 7 are similarly mounted. To enable the cores to be withdrawn the core plates have notches whereby they can be brought out of engagement with the lock-plate, and fixed to the bar 32 is a rope 33 whose lower end passes round a wheel 34 which may be turned by a handle to coil up the rope on it. An additional vertical guide for the frame 2 is provided by a socket 6 which receives a pin 5 at the bottom of a fork whose upper ends 4 are attached to the frame 2. After the material has been vibrated in the mould it is smoothed off on top by a board 13 which is then fixed over the top of the mould box. The cores are withdrawn and the mould box turned over on to a platform 11. The wall 12 of the mould box is detached from the rest of the box and fixed to the stand in the position shown dotted and the rest of the box is swung back, leaving the moulded article on the platform. The board 13 with the moulded block is then removed and the wall 12 swung back and fastened to the rest of the box. When two mould boxes are used another platform corresponding to the platform 11 is placed on the opposite side of the stand. To make the fullest use of labour the machine is arranged so that all handles are on two opposite sides only of the stand.
