679,365. Moulds for tubular concrete beams. COOKE, L. Nov. 15, 1949 [Oct. 15, 1948], No. 26825/48. Class 87(ii) An open-topped channel-shaped mould a, Figs. 1, 2, for moulding tubular beams of cement or concrete, comprises sides d<SP>2</SP> which may be integral with or removable from the mould, a fixed end plate b and a movable end plate e having holes to support the ends of tubular cores c, and longitudinal division plates d provided with protuberances d' for forming keyways or channels in the beams. Strapping bars f are provided when removable side plates are employed. In operation the mould, cores &c. are set up as shown, and cement or concrete is poured into the spaces between the cores and division plates and the mould vibrated. When the mould has integral sides a pallet board is placed in the bottom. After filling, the material is levelled off and time allowed for the material to make its first set, the cores c and plates d are then withdrawn, the beams being left in position in the mould until set sufficiently for handling or removal on the pallet board. The vibration may be effected by motor driven vibrators clamped upon crossbars attached to the mould, or the filled mould may be mounted on rollers and traversed beneath a positioned vibrator. Beams of different widths may be produced by omitting some of the division plates d. Specification 11748/03, [Class 87], is referred to.
