Abstract

1,075,442. Moulding gypsum/lightweight aggregates. W. & C. FRENCH Ltd. April 14, 1964 [Jan. 16, 1963], No. 29898/66. Divided out of 1,075,441. Heading B5A. A building panel is obtained by packing lightweight aggregate, preferably a " no-fines" aggregate, into a mould, applying retaining means to the uppermost surface and pouring a gypsum slurry into the mould. The mould comprises two U-shaped supports 1 connected by angle sections 4 containing slots 6 serving as bearings for rollers 7 which support a member 8, this member defining the two short edges and one of the long edges of the panel to be formed in the mould. Mould members 14, 15 (which define the faces of the panels formed) are supported by telescopic links 16 and pneumatic cylinders 17. Groove 33 contains an inflatable tube 34 and provides a good seal between the members 8, 14 and 15. In operation, members 14, 15 are moved to their moulding positions, and the space defined by them and member 8 is filled with aggregate. A mould member 40 then engages with the upper surfaces of box sections 19 and plates 38 and is clamped to the members 14, 15 by toggles 44. Air is fed to the tube 34 and vibrators 39, whereupon a gypsum slurry is poured into funnels 52 and passes through retaining means 54 around the aggregate until all the interstices are filled and plaster wells out of holes 56 in a plate 41. Vibrators are then switched off and the plaster allowed to set. When the plaster has set sufficiently air to tube 34 is cut off and toggles 44 connecting member 40 to member 15 are removed. Member 40 is then swung by handles 49 of the two remaining toggles to the chain line position of Fig. 1. Air is supplied to the ends of cylinders 31 remote from members 14, 15 thereby moving them to their retracted positions. Member 8 is moved on to a support 57 and after further setting of the plaster the moulded panel is lifted out of the member 8.
