Abstract
1,133,231. Moulding concrete blocks. H. LAIER. 18 Feb., 1966 [20 Feb., 1965], No. 7331/66. Heading B5A. A method of casting concrete blocks comprises depositing a concrete mix from a hopper into moulds, compacting it, depositing the still moist blocks on to a platform and depositing in this way successive layers of blocks one on top of the other; the layers being separated by covering the previously deposited layer with a parting material. A machine for carrying out the method comprises uprights 16, 17 having wheels 29, 30 running on rails 22, 23 (or a flat surface), each column having successive levels 14, 15 at which spring pins 12, 13 are inserted to support a moulding bed 4 which is formed into moulds by a plunger 5. This plunger is attached to a cross-beam 7 raised by a ram 6; beam 7 and bed 4 being vibrated to compact the cement mix, poured on to the latter from a hopper (not shown), by high-frequency vibrators 8-11. As the machine reaches the end of the rails the mould bottom is uncovered and concrete blocks 3 are deposited on a platform 35. The parting layer which may be sawdust, shale oil or a non-wettable plastics wide-mesh grid, is then applied to the top surface of the blocks while the machine returns to the beginning of the rails and the bed 4 is raised. When a pile of say six layers of blocks is built up, a fork-lift truck removes the platform 35, which acts as a pallet.
