WALTER'J. MCCOY, OF, OMAHA, NEBRASKA; ELIZABETH MCCGY AQMINISTBATBTX "0F 7 THE ESTATE OF SAID WALTER J. MCCOY, DECEASED.
HEADER-BRICK Mom).
Application filed Miarch is, 1922. Serial N0. 544,749.
To all whom may concern: I
Be it known that'L'Vi/Anrnn MoC-or, a citizen of the United States, residing at ()maha, in the. county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Header-Brick Molds, of which the following is'a' specification.
This invention useful improvements in molds and pertains more especially to a mold which is employed for making headerbrick, the latter used in the construction of hollow walls;
The primary objectof the invention is to provide a mold'which is of simpleconstrucafter raising of the mold and while the tamper is held stationary. I
The invention has still further and other objectswhich willbe later set forth and of themselves manifested in the course of'the following'desoription.
In the drawings V Figure 1, is a top plan view of the invention; Q i I Figure 2, is a sectionon line 2 2of Figure l; f
Figure 3, is a detail perspective view of the pattern plate, and f Figure 4, is a perspective view 'ofthe completed block,
In proceeding .in accordance with the present invention, a mold is provided having side walls 1 and end walls 2 and 3 and an open top and bottom." The end walls have similar inward projections with tapering sides textending vertically along their inner faces and located to one side of the center of the side walls.
The end wall 3' has a dovetail projection. 5'at itsvcent'er the relates to certain new andwall, The projections 4c-causethe bl-ocllr B V to have similar recesses .C- in the opposed sides of the same, the recesses having in! wardly converging sides, th ough obviously other forms of projectionsdproducing varying conformations of recesses maybe;
employed as desired.
- A pattern plate 6 is employed havingany suitable or desired pattern 7" to produce a corresponding figure D on the theblock B. The lowerside 8 of the pat tern plate is reduced forming shoulder 9, the latter'being seated upon the pallet-ii),
front face The ea-em" plate fits within themold and Y is held against the end wall Qby virtue of the pallet abutting the lower side 8 of the plate 6, The tamper is indicated at 11 and is shaped toqfit within the mold interior 7 and to receive'and slide'pasti'the projed tions 4, a and 5. The side walls 1 oft-he mold are provided with tongues to. engage the mold carrier .Of my cementjbloolr machine,application for patent for whieh'wa's filed May 14,1921,Serial No. assess and 1e,
'ceived patent thereon No. 1 1338388, issued 'Dec. 12, 1922. ,l i
The molds are supported and carried by the mold carrier and can be raised orlowered atwill by theoperator, while'ithe pattemplate ;is suitably hinged man demysaid oopending'application.
In assemblyflof the parts preparatory to molding the mold is raised, the pallet-.then placed on the base of'the :machine and finally the pattern plate is turned upwardly completion of the tamping, the tamper re-.
mains in position in the mold and 'is held stationary, the mold being'theri raised by the mold carrier to a' position above the pattern plate, following which, the pattern plate is turned to extend downwardly and the pallet then removed 'with the brick thereon. v 7
'What is claimed is: r
1; In a mold, a body having sides and ends siredmanner at 3O torthe base 25; of the machine and is movedflto extend downwardly when not in use, all asset forth in i and van open top and bottom, similar projections on the inner faces of the sides, a dovetail projection on theinner face of one ing therewithin'to form recesses in the molded body, hinged pattern plate carried by base and engaged with a w ll 01": the mold body, and a pallet seated on the base and closing the bottom of themold body and formed to support the pattern plate against downward movement toward the mold terior. l
3. In a mold, a base, a body on the base having side and end walls and an'open top and bottom. a pattern plate hinged to the base and Vengageable with wall of the body so as to be held thereby against outward movement, a pallet on the base,-and a tamper, said body being'upwardly movable from the base and pallet and while the tamper remains stationary to allow the pallet and brick thereon to be removed. 7
4.111 a mold, a base, a body having side and end walls, a pattern platecin the body removably engaged with one of the walls of the body and held against outward movement thereby, and a pallet seated on the base and which removably supports the body and closes the bottom 01 the body whereby the body can be raised up from the pallet while the latter remains stationary and the pattern plate then removed.
5. In a mold in combination with a tamper, a body having an open top and bottom, a pallet closingthe bottom otthe mold, and a hlnged pattern plate movable to engage the pallet to be held in place by the mold and movable downwardly away from the pallet upon ra sing of the mold and while noven'aent thereby, said mold body:
7. In a mold,abase, a pallet on thebase,
a mold body having side and end walls removably disposed over the pallet, and a pattern plate hinged to the base and movable to overlie the pallet and to engage a wall of the mold body was to be held against outwvard swinging movement thereby, said patt rn plate having a right-angular shoulder formed to engage against the ad acent end edge and upper face ot the pallet-so as to'be held against inward movement. 7 v
8. In a mold, a base, a pallet thereon, a mold'hody supported from the base; and a hinged pattern plate 'earried'by the base and receivable within the mold body and movable downwardly to a position beneath the pallet, said mold body being vertically movableto permit said downward swinging,
of the pattern plate thereby to -expose and permit free access to the pallet to permitof removal of the latter from the base, v
In testimony whereof-I affix my signature.
WALTER lMoCOY.
