Manures.-In the coking of coal or other fuels, the nitrogen present is recovered as ammonium chloride which contains a small quantity of phenols and is suitable for use as manure. In an example, salt and silica, finely ground and mixed into a pulp with water are spread uniformly on the fuel before it is coked. The ammonium chloride may be separated from the distillation gases either by cooling to a temperature just above that at which the water condenses, when the ammonium chloride is obtained in dry condition or by cooling and condensing all the products together and crystallizing the resulting gas liquor.
