Abstract
A gas producer is charged with a mixture of fuel and phosphates so that in addition to a carbon monoxide substantially free from carbon dioxide, phosphorus or phosphorus pentoxide is also obtained. The gas generated contains phosphorus vapour, the phosphorus being separated as such, or the gas may be burned to give meta-phosphoric acid or phosphorus pentoxide. Orthophosphoric acid may be formed by the action of steam on the meta-phosphoric acid. Specifications 49/79, [Class 51, Furnaces and kilns], 191,630, and 191,692 are referred to.
