Phosphoric acid.-In the production of phosphoric acid by the combustion of phosphorus or gases containing phosphorus the wall or walls of the combustion chamber are irrigated with phosphoric acid solution in order to protect them and secure at least partial absorption of the combustion product. For the combustion, a vertical shaft or a horizontal, rotary tube into which the reaction gases are introduced in the form of a flame may be employed, the walls in either case being irrigated with phosphoric acid solution.
