255,766. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). March 3, 1926. Ammonium phosphates.-Mono, di- and triammonium phosphates are obtained by absorption of phosphoric anhydride from gases containing it by means of an aqueous solution of an ammonium phosphate. When making the di- and triammonium phosphates, preferably the solution used for absorption should not contain more than 1.5 mols. of ammonia for each molecule of phosphoric acid, the necessary ammonia being added after the absorption has been completed. The phosphoric anhydride is completely absorbed and ammonia either as gas or in solution is continuously added until a hot concentrated solution of ammonium phosphate is produced. The ammonia may be mixed with the gas containing phosphoric anhydride before absorption. The hot solution may be filtered free from iron and aluminium compounds before it is cooled to separatethe ammonium phosphate as crystals.
