Abstract
322,700. Guillissen, J., and Union Chimique Belge Soc. Anon. Feb. 22, 1929. Ammonium phosphates. - In preparing ammonium phosphates by neutralizing phosphoric acid with ammonia, ammonia is added in excess, whereby tri-ammonium phosphate is precipitated. A solution of phosphoric acid obtained by treating crude phosphate with sulphuric acid is diluted with water and sufficient ammonia is passed in to precipitate impurities consisting of iron, aluminium and calcium salts. Gaseous ammonia in excess is passed into the filtrate, when the bulk of the phosphoric acid is precipitated as triammonium phosphate which may be separated and heated to form di- or mono-ammonium phosphates. The mother liquor may be used to dilute a fresh quantity of phosphoric acid, or may be heated in iron apparatus for recovery of ammonia.
