Abstract

290,518. Liljenroth, F. G. July 12, 1927, [Convention date]. Drawings to Specification. Manures containing ammonium phosphate and potassium salts are produced by leaching crude phosphate with an acid, such as sulphuric or nitric acid, adding ammonium sulphate to precipitate calcium sulphate, and washing the precipitate with ammonium sulphate solution so as to recover the phosphoric acid contained therein. The calcium sulphate is treated with ammonia and carbon dioxide to produce ammonium sulphate solution, which may be concentrated and which after use for washing the calcium sulphate is added to the leaching acid or to the solution obtained by the leaching. The washing is effected at temperatures of 50-90‹ C. Potassium salts are added to the washing liquors. Calcium carbonate precipitated during the formation of ammonium sulphate is washed with water to separate ammonium sulphate and the solution is used during the formation of ammonium sulphate.
