Abstract

329,495. Kali Forschungs - Anstalt Ges. Dec. 6, 1928, [Convention date]. Manures.-Magnesium-ammonium phosphate, suitable for use in manures, is obtained by treating commercial phosphoric acid or phosphate solutions with an excess of the final or waste liquors obtained in the potassium industry. The mixture is then treated with excess of ammonia to neutralize the phosphoric acid, preferably with slight heating. A crystalline precipitate is obtained which is washed and dried at about 100‹ C.; the drying operation may be prolonged until most of the water of crystallization is evaporated. The ammonia in the mother liquor may be recovered by the usual treatment with lime. The above product is used as a component for the conversion of agglomerating non-distributable manures into stable and distributable manures, e.g. equal parts with ammonium nitrate give a manure which remains unaltered and distributable after four weeks' storage.
