Abstract
In the production of potassium nitrate from potassium sulphate and nitric acid, the mother liquors obtained when nitric acid of a concentration of less than 40 per cent is used in the process according to the parent Specification are used to decompose crude phosphates, and the resulting liquor, after separation of the precipitated gypsum, is evaporated and saturated with ammonia to obtain a dry ballast-free fertilizer. Before, during, or after the evaporation and saturation steps, potassium chloride or sulphate or other fertilizing salts may be added. Examples are given. Specification 440,214 is referred to.ALSO:In the production of potassium nitrate from potassium sulphate and nitric acid, the mother liquors obtained when nitric acid of a concentration of less than 40 per cent. is used in the process according to the parent Specification are used to decompose crude phosphates, and the resulting liquor, after separation of the precipitated gypsum, is evaporated and saturated with ammonia to obtain a dry ballast-free fertilizer.
