Abstract

Citrate soluble phosphatic compounds are made from acid solutions containing calcium and phosphate or hydrophosphate ions by simultaneously introducing the acid solution, ammonia and sulphur dioxide or a sulphite or bisulphite into a reaction vessel, maintaining the liquid reaction mixture at a pH value 6-8 by continuously regulating the flow of the acid solution and ammonia, and withdrawing a precipitate of the citrate soluble phosphatic compound, if desired mixed with the mother liquor, from the reaction vessel. The precipitate may be separated from the solution and dried or the whole may be evaporated to a concentrated mixed fertilizer. The process may be started by introducing the acid solution, ammonia and sulphur dioxide, sulphite or bisulphite into a quantity of an already substantial neutral liquid, e.g. the reaction mixture resulting from a preceding run. The acid phosphate solution may be obtained by dissolving a phosphate in nitric acid. The proportion of sulphite and ammonia may be adjusted to give a pH value of 6 to 8.ALSO:Citrate soluble phosphatic compounds suitable as fertilizers or ingredients thereof are made from acid solutions containing calcium and phosphate or hydrophosphate ions by simultaneously introducing the acid phosphate solution, ammonia and sulphur dioxide or a sulphite or bisulphite into a reaction vessel, maintaining the liquid reaction mixture at a pH value 6-8 by continuously regulating the flow of the acid solution and ammonia and withdrawing a precipitate of the citrate soluble phosphatic compound, if desired mixed with the mother liquor, from the reaction vessel.
