Abstract

A manure containing variable amounts of nitrogen and phosphate is prepared by treating a solution of free cyanamide with an acid to convert it into urea or salts thereof, and then with an insoluble phosphate, such as tricalcium phosphate, bone ash, basic slag, or natural phosphate, which is rendered soluble by the acid. By evaporation there is obtained a mixture containing urea or salts thereof, soluble calcium phosphate and other calcium salts. According to an example calcium cyanamide in aqueous suspension is treated with carbon dioxide, filtered, sulphuric acid added, and the liquid heated to 70 DEG C.; bone ash or other insoluble phosphate is then added and the whole evaporated to dryness. Calcium cyanamide may also be decomposed by sulphuric acid and the phosphate added without previous filtration. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) refers also to the isolation of urea as by-product. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:A manure containing variable amounts of nitrogen and phosphate is prepared by treating a solution of free cyanamide with an acid to convert it into urea or salts thereof, and then with an insoluble phosphate, such as tri-calcium phosphate, bone ash, basic slag or natural phosphate, which is rendered soluble by the acid. By evaporation there is obtained a mixture containing urea or salts thereof, soluble calcium phosphate and other calcium salts.
