Abstract

294,117. Elektricitõts-Werk Lonza. July 14, 1927, [Convention date]. Manures.-A mixture of calcium nitrate and phosphate for use as a manure, which does not readily become damp, is prepared by reacting upon crude phosphate with nitric acid of such concentration (65-75 per cent strength) that the product contains less water than the normal content of water of crystallization, preferably less than is necessary for the formation of the tetrahydrate of calcium nitrate. Alternatively crude phosphate may be treated with nitric acid of 60 per cent strength and the product dehydrated by treatment with dry air at a temperature below 40‹ C. The subsequent formation of oxides of nitrogen is prevented by adding to the product a small proportion of urea.
