Abstract

290,075. Tyrer, D. Aug. 2, 1927. Manures.-A fertilizer is obtained by heating under reducing conditions calcium phosphate, such as ground rock phosphate, with potassium sulphate or bisulphate and decomposing the sulphide formed with an acid or acid salt containing an acid radical of fertilizing value, for instance with phosphoric acid to obtain a product containing acid potassium phosphate which may be caused to absorb ammonia. Sodium sulphate may be substituted for potassium sulphate, and then may be used for decomposing the sulphide the reaction product of stated proportions of nitric acid, phosphate rock, and potassium sulphate after removal by filtration of the calcium sulphate formed. According to the Provisional Specification, nitric acid alone, or a mixture of mono-potassium or monoammonium phosphate and phosphoric acid may be used to decompose the sulphide,
