Abstract

158,974. Lloyd, H. G., and Spon, C. A. Nov. 12, 1919. Current motors; regulating; balancing moving parts. - A fluid-current motor comprises an abutment 16 producing a vortex on each side in which rotors 26 are situated with their axes 24 approximately coincident with the axes of the vortices. A method of determining the approximate position of the axes of the vortices is described. The rotors transmit their power by belts 29 to a main power shaft 30, and the whole apparatus is free to rotate about the shaft 30 under the influence of a directing-vane 19. The shape of the abutment may be adjustable by a wedge mechanism as shown in Fig. 3, and the rotor blades 27 and supporting-arms may have pocketed rearward faces. The shape and angle of the rotor blades 27 may be varied, and the axes of the rotors moved with relation to the vortex axes. The various means of adjustment may be governor-operated. Weights 20, 21 are provided to balance the weight of the rotors. Several motors may be coupled to one shaft.
