Abstract

243,756. Roscher, P. A. Nov. 28, 1924, [Convention date]. Current motors; regulating.-A wind motor comprises a wheel 11 secured to a shaft 2 and carrying a number of rotor vanes 12 utilizing the Magnus effect. The direction of the wind is perpendicular to the plane of the wheel. Each vane 12 is rotated, about a radial axis by a bevel gear 14 on its spindle 13 meshing with a bevel gear 6 driven by a shaft 3. An auxiliary motor drives the shaft 3 either permanently or for starting only, and by using a conical belt pulley 8 or other means the rate of revolution of the vanes on their own axes may be varied in order to regulate the speed of the shaft 2. The vanes may be conical, or any of the forms shown in Fig. 4 may be used. A series of such wind-wheels may be arranged coaxially. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that in a modification the rotor vanes are mounted with their axes parallel to the wind, certain of the vanes being in this case screened from the wind. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
