Couplings, automatic, convertible to non - automatic. - In order to convert from a link-and-hook coupling system to one employing couplings of the knuckle type, the outer ends of the knuckles 16 of the latter couplings are, during the transition period, provided with rigidly but detachably connected fingers 17 extending almost to the point of the guard arm 19 and adapted to support a link or chain 13, by which the coupling can be connected either to a hook 12 on the opposed vehicle as shown in Fig. 1, or to a second automatic knuckle coupling, as shown in Fig. 2. The finger 17 is preferably passed into a slot in the knuckle 16 and secured by a pin 18 passing through the finger and the knuckle.
