Couplings, automatic.-In order to couple vehicles provided with couplings of the rotarydisk hook type with those having couplings of the Norwegian hook type, or during a transition period, the coupling-head of one vehicle carries a link e, Fig. 1, which is adapted to engage the rotary-disk hook g of the opposite vehicle or to be engaged, as shown in Fig. 5, by a hook h of the Norwegian type. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 5, the link comprises an inner part a pivoted to the coupling-head, and an outer part e pivoted at d to the inner part, the hook h engaging the pivot pin d when the outer part e is turned back. This form of coupling may be derived from two coupling-heads of the ordinary rotary-disc type by removing from one coupling- head both the rotary-disk and link and substituting a two-part link a, e, and by removing from the other coupling-head the link only, a filling- piece t being inserted in the elongated slot r for the replaced link so as to provide a fixed bearing for a two-part link a, e. In a modification shown in Fig. 6, a one-part link e is employed, the Norwegian hook being adapted to engage the pivot pin x, which in this case occupies the bearing formerly occupied by the pivot of the rotary-disk hook.
