Abstract

Variable - s p e e d gearing; clutches. - An expanding - ring friction clutch operated through a spring barrel is adapted to. variable-speed gearing having shafts b, c mounted in a gear-box a. Gear-wheels d fixed to the shaft b transmit power through chains to gears e, which are loose on the shaft c and adapted to be connected alternatively thereto by clutch bands f. The ends of a band f are thrust apart to engage the clutch by a spring barrel k on the outer end of a radial plunger j. The plungers j are operated selectively by cams h on a bar i slidable within the shaft c. Toothed gearing is described in a Provisional Specification.
