Keyless mechanism.-A sleeve 11 bearing an annular rack 12 is turned by the ring 8 holding the glass 9. Normally the rack meshes with a train 13, 14, 18, 19, 20 from the barrel arbor 21 hut the sleeve can be drawn out slightly so that the rack meshes with a train (not shown) from the motionwork. The sleeve being provided with shallow annular grooves is lightly retained in either position by ball catches 35 in the pillars 4. The first wheel 13 of the winding-train is loose on the arbor 15 and drives through a ratchet clutch 16 with spring 17 innocuous reversal being thus allowed. The spring 17 abuts on the plate 1, and the arbor has freedom for sliding. If, when putting the rack back after setting the hands, it catches the wheel 13 the latter is pushed in and therewith the clutch and arbor and the wheel 14. The first wheel of the handsetting train can also shift against a spring.
