Abstract
406,180. Recording-apparatus; clockwork. FABER, J. A. C., c/o Koninklijke Paketvaart Maatschappij, Koningsplein-Oost, Batavia, Java, Dutch East Indies. June 17, 1933, No. 17340. Convention date, Aug. 27 1932. [Class 106 (iv).] In apparatus for recording the different positions of the handle of an engine-room telegraph and the periods during which it remains in each position, a point continuously records on a clock-driven strip, the movements of the handle are positively transmitted to the point and the clockwork is wound by the movement of the handle and started if it is not already running, means being provided to prevent overwinding of the clockwork. To the shaft 2 carrying the handle of the telegraph is secured an arm 4 supporting a pawl 5 engaing a ratchet wheel 9 fixed to a barrel 10 to which is secured the outer end of a clockspring 13. The inner end of the spring is attached to a sleeve 17 free on the shaft 2 and carrying an arm 18 and a disc 19. A disc 20 and a pinion 21 are spring-pressed against the disc 19 to form a friction clutch, the pinion 21 driving the roll 29, carrying the record strip, through gearing 24, 26 and clockwork escapement mechanism 32. The arm 18 lies between two projections 14 on the barrel 10. When the barrel 10 has been turned to tension the spring fully, a projection 14 engages the arm 18 to turn the sleeve 17, the disc 19 slipping past the pinion 21. If the shaft 2 remains stationary for a certain time (e.g., twenty minutes) the arm 18 overtakes a projection 14 and the clockwork is stopped. A disc 34 secured to the shaft 2 has a spiral slot 35 in which engages a pin on an arm 37 engaging a sliding block 42 carrying the recording point, which is thus moved across the paper in accordance with the movements of the shaft 2. The record strip is drawn from a roll 48 and guided by a shield 46 and rollers 47.
