Kinematograph apparatus.-Means for enabling a single image to be projected for a prolonged time comprises a coupling device for the shaft of the feed mechanism having a movable element controlled by a movable stop normally held away from it by means of a contact member engaging the edge of the film; the movable element rotates with the shaft, and moves towards and from it, and the stop is so placed that, when the feed mechanism is uncoupled, the feed claws are withdrawn from the gate. As shown, a driving shaft 1 carries a gear wheel 2 meshing with a pinion 3 loose on a shaft 4 carrying a shutter blade 15 and operating feed claws on a link 11. A disc 27 is secured to the shaft 4 and carries a spring- pressed pawl 24, Fig. 3, normally engaging a tooth 23 in a wheel 22 secured to the pinion 3. One arm 33 of a lever is urged by a spring 35 acting on its other arm 30 into a position such that it would engage the pawl 24 and uncouple it from the tooth 23, but is normally held by a projection 31 on a lever 21 pivoted at 26 and carrying a stud 20 pressed into engagement with the film edge by a spring 28. The film edge is notched, and, when the stud 20 falls into a notch, the lever 21 moves to the position shown in Fig. 5, and allows the arm 33 to engage the pawl and break the coupling. The end 29 of the lever 21 is raised by hand to restore the coupling. The stud 20 is moved away from the position of the film edge, when threading or rewinding is to be effected, by depressing the end 29 of the lever so that the surface 36 engages the lever arm 30. The coupling is then broken, and, since the pawl is placed on the disc 27 in such a position that the feed claws are withdrawn from the gate when the pawl is held, the gate is free for threading &c.
