Abstract
362,742. Kinematograph apparatus. PATH• CINEMA, ANCIENS ETABLISSEMENTS PATH• FR’RES, 30, Boulevard des Italiens, Paris. Jan. 21,1931, No. 2017. Convention date, Jan. 23, 1930. [Class 97 (i).] In apparatus in which the intermittent-feed mechanism is rendered inoperative when a finger bearing on the edge of the film enters a notch therein, a pivoted arm is normally held by the finger, and when released by the finger is moved by a rotating cam to render the mechanism inoperative ; means for manually controlling the arm, and a shutter for cutting off the heat of the beam while the mechanism is inoperative, may be provided. As shown, the film is fed by claws 6 carried by a frame 5 moved vertically by a cam 12 and horizontally by a cam 11 engaging a lever 1 turning on a fixed pivot 2, the lever and frame being pivotally connected at 4. A tension spring maintains engagement between the cam 11 and a roller 10 carried by the lever 1, and the cams are geared together by wheels having diameters such that the cam 12 makes two or more revolutions for each revolution of the cam 11. The film edge is engaged by a pin 25 on a finger 23 pivoted at 24 and pressed towards the film by a spring 26. The finger 23 in conjunction with a rotary cam 33 and a tension spring 22 normally holds a pivoted arm 19 in a position such that its end 21 does not engage the lever 1, but when the pin 25 enters a film notch the arm 19 is released and is caused by the cam to turn about a stub shaft 20 and assume the position shown in Fig. 3, thus engaging the lever 1 and preventing effective operation of the feed claws. The cam 33 has a notch 34 normally engaging a boss 35 on the arm 19, and is geared by wheels 32, 31 to a shaft 30 frictionally coupled to a worm wheel 28 driven by a worm 27 on the shaft of a gear wheel 18 driven through engagement with a wheel 17 on the shaft of the cam 11. The relative effects of the friction coupling and of the spring 22 are such that, when the arm 19 is held by the lever 23, the clutch slips, and, when the arm 19 is freed, the clutch drives the shaft 30. A shutter 37 of gauze &c. having an opening 40 normally in register with the film aperture is rotated by the shaft 30 through gearing 38, 39 so as to cut off the heat while the film is stationary. The cam 33 and shutter 37 rotate at the same speed, and when one rotation has been completed the spring 22 causes the boss 35 to re-enter the notch 34 so that the arm 19 frees the lever 1. The stub shaft 20 may be carried by a plunger 43 movable downwards by hand against a spring 44, so that the film feed may be rendered inoperative at the will of the operator ; means to hold the plunger in depressed position may be provided.
