Abstract
709,621. Toothed gearing; stopping shafts in predetermined positions. TRUBENISED (GT. BRITAIN), Ltd. Dec. 20, 1950 [Dec. 20, 1949; Feb. 3, 1950], Nos. 32618/49 and 2865/50. Classes 80 (1) and 80 (2) [Also in Group VII] Toothed gearing. A shaft 30, Fig. 8, required to rotate step-by-step is driven from a continuously rotating shaft 40 through worm gearing 42, the worm being mutilated as shown to provide the necessary dwell, during which the shaft 30 is held by a spring datent 46 or, according to the first Provisional Specification, by a brake pad or stop actuated by a cam on the shaft 40. The thread of the worm is formed so that the full advance is obtained in about half a revolution, the ends of the threads being bevelled, according to the first Provisional Specification for smooth working. Stopping shafts. To stop a shaft 40, Fig. 9, in a predetermined position when the driving motor is switched off by movement of a rod 105, it is provided with an abutment member 101, capable of yielding against a strong torsion spring 103 for engagement by a spring-biased detent 100 when a latch 104 is tripped by the rod 105. The rod 105 is actuated by a hand-knob 107 or automatically by a member 24 of the driven mechanism. The detent 100 is reset by an arm 108 actuated by a lever 110 which must be operated before a knob 111 can be moved to restart the motor. Specifications 709,642 and 709,683, [both in Group VII], are referred to.
