Abstract
716,305. Driving dynamos. GLOSSL, K. SCHAFFLER-, [trading as SCHAFFLER & CO.]. Sept. 23. 1952 [March 25, 1952], No. 23822/52. Class 35 A generator accelerating mechanism has a shaft 1 connected to an energizing spring 10 and a winding spindle 11 connected to the shaft 1 through gearing 12, 13, 2 which is disengaged before the spring starts to run down so that the winding spindle is not driven round by the spring during the fifiring motion. The gear 2 is fixed to the shaft 1 which also carries a relatively rotatable sleeve 5 to which it is coupled in one sense only by a ratchet 6. The sleeves carries a control cam 7 which drives a cam 8 with considerable lost-motion through a pin 8a. The cam 8 is free on. the sleeve, its outer edge engaging a pawl 24 on the firing spindle 19 to prevent firing until the spring is fully wound, at which point the pawl comes opposite a gap 8c. The cam 8 also has a pin 8b driving the rotary part of an ignition switch 9 whose body is secured against rotation by a lug 9b. The spring 10 is fixed to the sleeve. The intermediate gear 13 is mounted to be swung into or out of engagement with the gear 2 on a plate 14 pivoted on the spindle 11. Also pivoted on this spindle is a releasing pawl 15 which restrains the return motion of the spring until detached from a ratchet wheel 3 fixed to the gear 2. At the commencement of the winding of spindle 11, a follower 25 is caused to rotate and present its recessed part to a boss 12a of the gear 12, thus allowing the long arm of the interlocking member 20 to move away from pin 18 and so allow the gear 13 and pawl 15 to 'engage. When winding is completed pawl 24 faces gap 8c in cam 8 and the firing spindle 19 can be turned so that arm 20 presses on pin 18, thus disengaging the winding gear 13 and pawl 15 from the spring shaft, the pawl having a snap-action produced by a spring 17. This shaft then rotates driving generator pinion 4 and the cam 7 engages rod 8a to rotate the cam 8 to its initial position and operates the firing switch 9. Turning the spindle 19 also allows the pawl 25 to turn under the action of a spring (not shown) and present its end to the boss 12a, thus preventing re-engagement of the gear until the spindle 11 is turned. Specification 356,932 is referred to.
