Abstract

823,711. Lap winding apparatus. SPINNEREIMASCHINENBAU KARL - MARXSTADT VEB. May 18, 1956, No. 15500/56. Class 120(1) In a lap winding machine of the kind in which the lap is pressed by swinging arms 9 against a single lap roller 7 constant pressure is provided by brake means acting on arms 9, and mechanism is provided for automatically moving arms 9 firstly away from roller 7 to a lap-discharge position and secondly back to their starting position, the brake means being inoperative during such movements of arms 9. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, a web 67 is wound on a core 8 held in arms 9 which are pivoted at 10. As the lap 13 builds up, arms 9 swing back to the dotted line position against the constant resistance of brake, on a shaft 17, connected to arms 9 via pinions 16 and toothed segments 15. When the lap is completed, a counting device causes a solenoid to be energized whereby a control shaft 34 is caused to perform one revolution. A cam on shaft 34 releases the brake mechanism and an eccentric, also on shaft 34, causes a crank arm 30 to be clutched to a driven gear wheel 32; rotation of arm 30 acts through connecting rods 37 to swing arms 9 further and deposit the completed lap in a delivery tray 14, the contoured edges 12 of the side panels of the machine supporting the lap during this movement. A further cam on shaft 34 causes a spider 49 to rotate by one division to move a new core 8a previously spaced manually on the spider, to the winding position; movement of the spider releases an arm 96 so that a trough 57 swings upwards under spring action to receive the new core 8a, sever the web and press the new leading edge around the new core. Meanwhile, further rotation of crank arm 30 has restored arms 9 to their original position to engage the new core, the crank arm being de-clutched from gear wheel 32 when a projection 42 trips a clutch-retaining pin 39. A crank arm on the brake release mechanism retracts trough 57 to its original position. In another embodiment, Figs. 11, 14, the core 8 is held between axially retractable hubs 81 and flanges 80 rotatable on arms 9 which are adjustably mounted on splined shaft 10 carrying toothed segments 15 meshing with pinions 18 on brake shaft 17. When the lap is completed a hand lever is operated to cause linkages 87, 86, 91 to rotate bearing bushes 83 whereby a pin and slot connection 85, 83 causes retraction of flanges 80 and release of the lap. Either flanges 80 or hubs 81 may be omitted.
