Abstract

548,542. Ammunition fuzes. SMITH & SONS (MOTOR ACCESSORIES), Ltd., S., and RUSSELL, V. J. S. April 10, 1941. No. 4806. [Class 9 (i)] A key for setting a time fuze comprises two relatively rotatable members 19, 20 which are secured against relatively longitudinal movement, the outer member 20 being provided with a spring detent 28 having a lip 29 adapted to spring outwardly beneath a flange on a key plate 31 on the fuze-setting mechanism. This flange is slotted at 34 so that after the key has been turned the correct amount the detent is released and the key can be extracted; during testing the key cannot be withdrawn if the operation is over a shorter period of time than the correct setting. The key is adapted to operate the minute and hour arbors 10 and 17 respectively of a clock gear 12, 13, the hour arbor carrying the timing disc 9. For this purpose the end of the inner member 19 of the key is slotted to engage the tang end 15 of the minute arbor while the outer portion 20 of the key and hour arbor 17 are cut away to interfit, so that the outer key member is rotated through the gearing as the key rotates.
