Clutches and speed-varying mechanism.-An hydraulic speed gear comprises driving and driven shafts A, C, drums D, D' on the driven shaft with radially moving pistons E, E<1>, an adjustable swash-plate W on the driving-shaft, engaging the ends of pump pistons T, T<1>, and a rotatable casing having eccentric cylinders B, B' for the drums D, D<1>, pressure and suction chambers v<2>, v<1>, and pump cylinders v', v<4>. A valve Y allows the cylinders v<3>, v<4> to be put into communication when it is desired to throw the apparatus out of action, and automatic valves v<5>- v<8> are provided.
