Variable-speed gearing. - In variable-speed driving-gearing for motor-vehicles of the kind described in the parent Specification and Specification 121,184, the brake which restrains axial movements of the driven shaft B consists of a piston D, mounted with ball bearings, on a collar on the shaft B, and working in a cylinder N coutaining oil. the passage of which from one side to the other of the piston is controlled by a valve V. Slippers C, carried by the driving-shaft and engaging cam grooves on the driven shaft, are provided with ball bearings as shown in Fig. 2.
