Abstract
240,441. Achilles, F. Sept. 25, 1924, [Convention date]. Clutches and speed-varying mechanism.- Variable-speed gearing comprises two communicating hydraulic pumps, the pistons of which act on eccentric members 5, 7, Fig. 1, adjustably mounted on the driven shaft 17, and carrying pins 18, 19 engaging slots in a slide 11. In a modification employing vane pumps, the eccentricity of the cylinders 11, 16, Fig. 3, is similarly adjusted. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also forms employing an epicyclic train. The pumps 7, 9, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), are of the vane type, the pump 7 being disposed between the driving-shaft 1 and a rotatable casing 2, and the pump 9 between the casing 2 and a fixed casing 8. The pump bodies 11, 12 carry studs received in grooves in a slide operated by a lever 14, and the gear train 3 - - 6 is disposed as shown. In another form, the gear wheel 6 and a casing 16 are coupled by clutch dogs 18, 17, Fig. 4 (Cancelled), either with the driven shaft or the casing 2. In forms employing piston pumps, the cylinders 17, Fig. 5 (Cancelled), are carried by bodies 16 adjustable relatively to the casing 2, or the pistons are operated from grooves in adjustable members. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
