Electro-magnets.-The core of an alternating- current relay is provided with a pole-piece having two or more projections, and means are provided for de-phasing the magnetic fluxes across the airgaps in order to avoid chattering. In a modification, the armature is provided with two or more projections in front of the core, and at least one of them is shaded. The core 1 is provided with a U-shaped pole-piece 8, one limb 10 of which is provided with a copper ring 11, while the other limb 12 is laminated by saw-cuts 13. In a modification, the pole-piece may have three or more limbs, one or more of which is shaded, or the end of the core may be split and one part shaded.
