Slow-release relays.-The usual copper-sleeved release relay of an automatic telephone selector is provided with two windings, one of which is short-circuited during the transmission of impulses. This has the effect of increasing the current through the other winding, consisting of larger turns, so as to give an increased number of lines of force each time its circuit is closed, whilst the short-circuited winding also acts as an additional copper sleeve to further increase the sluggishness.
