Abstract

1525344 Tail lamp control KRONE GmbH 10 May 1976 [23 June 1975] 19166/76 Heading G1A In a tail lamp control device the lamp is switched on when the cumbient light intensity is low and when the vehicle is being illuminated by the headlamps of an approaching vehicle. Two photo-diodes or photo-transistors are positioned behind lenses in inlets 34a, 35a designed so that the photo-diodes respectively receive radiation substantially from above (i.e. ambient radiation) and radiation substantially from below (i.e. directed head-lamp beams). When the radiation received by the upper photo-cell drops below a predetermined threshold, it activates the second photo-cell which causes an incandescent lamp 31 to be switched on if the second photo-cell receives light intensity of above a particular threshold. The battery 38 and an integrated control circuit 36 may be situated in the lamp's casing. The control circuit may include an adjustable delay feature which causes the light 31 to be switched off with a certain delay after the background brightness of the surroundings has exceeded the minimum threshold value, or, when the directed light is interrupted. The device may be used with motor vehicle trailers and the power supply may be charged by the vehicle's power supply.
