Abstract

1,010,201. Light-sensitive circuits. ROTAX Ltd. Feb. 7, 1962 [Feb.22,1961], No. 6436/61. Heading G1A. [Also in Division H3] A light-sensitive circuit comprises an electronic amplifier such as a transisitor 4 connected across a D.C. supply in series with an electromagnetic device 6 and a lamp 5 and having a photoelectric cell 3 such as a phototransistor connected to its control terminal, the arrangement being such that when the photo-electric cell is not illuminated the amplifier is non-conductive but when the cell is illuminated current flows through the amplifier to illuminate the lamp. The lamp 5 when illuminated, being in close proximity to the cell increases the amount of light falling on the cell, this regenerative action causing the current flowing through the amplifier to build up to a value sufficient to operate the electromagnetic device 6. When the initial source of illumination is removed the control effected by the cell reduces the current flowing through the lamp until by degenerative action the amplifier ceases to conduct, and the electromagnetic device ceases to operate. A triode may be used in place of the transistor 4. The device 6 may be a solenoid used for tilting the driving mirror of a road vehicle when the mirror is illuminated by the headlamps of a following vehicle, or it may be used as an automatic parking or dipping switch for vehicles.
