Turning-gear.-A starting-handle is of the kind which acts through a friction clutch and is held against backward movement, if the engine starts backwards, by a ratchet device.- The handle D is loose on a sleeve C<1> fixed to the shaft C carrying the usual starting clutch A, and a flange c on the sleeve C' is provided with friction disks c<1>, c<2> engaged by the hub of the handle D and by a plate E connected to the handle by bolts e. Ratchet teeth on the plate E are engaged by pawls G carried in a bracket g on the chassis of the vehicle.
