Abstract

1471476 Fuel injection pumps NIPPONDENSO CO Ltd 8 July 1974 [9 July 1973] 30120/74 Heading F1A In a multi-cylinder fuel injection pump, e.g. of the in-line type, wherein each of the pumping pistons is angularly adjustable and has an oblique control edge 2 which uncovers a spill port 5 to stop further delivery, some of the pistons are provided with a throttling discharge port I which connects the pumping chamber to the spill port 5 when the piston is turned to its rotary position corresponding to idling of the engine to be supplied by the pump. Thus at idling those cylinders of the engine fed by pump pistons with throttling discharge ports 1 are inoperative, thereby reducing the amount of unburnt gases emitted. At idling speed settings of the pistons but average or high engine speeds, the throttling effect of the discharge ports 1 ensures that the pistons with such ports do not become inoperative under these conditions. A longitudinal bore 4 connects the pumping chamber to the control edge 2 and discharge port 1.
