Abstract

146,671. Calvert, J. A. May 2, 1919. Reinforced-concrete girders and beams. - A concrete beam or girder of I-section is reinforced at the top and bottom by three rods 1 - - 6 which are clamped by plates 12 and bolts 13 to the bent ends of a strap 7. The ends of the centre bars 2, 5 are bent up and down into T-shaped slots 14 to facilitate the attachment of bonds 15. Holes 16 are formed in the web for bolting blocks to carry floor joists, and holes 17 in the flanges for pipes or electric cables. The bars may be wired to the straps 7 with or without clips 18, Fig. 6. In a modification, the ends of the centre bars 2, 5 are bent down and up diagonally and enter the slots 14 on the opposite face.
