A structural element comprises a pre-stressed reinforced concrete upper chord plate 1 connected to a lower chord 2 or chords by inclined members 3 transmitting shear forces in all directions. The inclined members may be struts 3 extending in groups of four from common top and bottom points 4 and 5, or may be triangular plates connected by their apices 11 and bases 13, 14 to the upper or lower chords. Alternatively the inclined members may be plates 26 and the lower chord members may be of various section rods or tubes 27, 28, 29 arranged longitudinally, transversely or obliquely of the element. The lower part of the element may be cased and may carry service pipes or wires.
