Abstract
734,781. Building structures. HARRISON, D. D., SEEL, E., and HARRISON, N., [trading as HARRISON & SEEL]. July 14, 1953 [July 31, 1952], No. 19399/52. Class 20 (4). A framework structure for use in building floors, roofs, walls, &c., and which allows a load to be distributed in two directions is built up from a number of standardized part beam members which can be assembled on the site to form integral vertical and transverse beams 10-13 and 14-17, each junction for the beam parts comprising a pair of cruciform plates 40, 41, connected together by a central bolt 49 passing through an abutment block 30. To each of the lower junction plates 41, other than those at edge of the frame, there is secured, e.g. by bolts, a transverse strut 33 having cross-slots 57, 58, at its lower end to accommodate two crossed tension wires 34. The wires 34, spaced from the beams by the struts 33, are tensioned by turn-buckles 37 to urge the respective beam parts together at the junction points, each wire being anchored to the ends of the associated main beam. To facilitate these end connections the ends of the beams are drilled at 69, Fig. 9, to receive the threaded end of the respective wire 34 which is secured to the hollow abutment block 30 by a nut 72. A roofing panel 77 is attached to the top plate 40 by pegs 79, 80, and a cover-plate 81 is fitted over the top plate 40. In the case of spans, other than square, the depth of the beam can be increased by using longer struts each having two or more hooks, or slots, at different distances along its length, the tension wires of the longer beams being placed in the lower hooks, or slots. Specification 734,809 is referred to.
