Abstract
770,901. Building structures; beams. DEX (PREFABRICATIONS), Ltd. March 7, 1955 [March 19, 1954], No. 8077/54. Class 20(4) A building structure comprising a plurality of structural members has one or more members, e.g. beams 10, connected to another structural member or members, e.g. a pair of transverse beams 30, 31 by means of a I-section connecting member 20 secured by bolts 26 to the beams 10 and passing through circular holes 32 in the neutral axes of the beams 30, 31, the flanges of the member 20 engaging in grooves 12, 13 formed in the beams 10. The beams 30, 31 are themselves connected together by a connecting member 20 and bolts 26 as shown in Fig. 2. If the beams 10 are to be secured inclined to the beams 30, 31 the grooves 12, 13 are cut diagonally across the beam. When the connecting member 20 after passing through the holes in the beams 30, 31, is not connected to a beam 10 the free end of the member 20 is secured to the outer beam 30 or 31 by a capping plate and a hook bolt or by a plate and a wedge passing through a hole in the member 20. Where a beam 47 (Fig. 6) passes over a column 46 it may be connected thereto by a plate 45 which is bolted to the column 46 and has a circular hole 48 in,its upper end enabling a connecting member 20 to be threaded through it connecting the plate and the beam 47 together and a transverse beam as shown. Other transverse beams may be connected to the column by a member 20 threaded through a lower circular hole 49 in the plate 45. The plate 45 as shown is flat, but in a modification the upper and lower halves are at right angles to each other. Three or four ends of beams may be secured together with a space between them, the space being filled by a column or a block such as is shown in Fig. 8 which is provided with circular holes in such a manner as to allow the alternate passing through of the connecting members. The ends of columns may be connected together and adapted for attachment to horizontal beams as shown in Fig. 9. The meeting ends of the column parts 41 and 42 are shaped to have diagonally opposite pairs of legs 43 and 44, slots or grooves being cut across the legs to receive the flange of the connecting members .
