Reinforced - concrete girders a n d beams ; floors of reinforced - concrete girders side by side. -Reinforced - concrete beams s are made with the lower flange substantially wider than the upper flange, a reinforcement comprising longitudinal bars 5, 6, 9 tied together at intervals, and openings 4 of substantial size in the web to reduce weight and allow for the passage of pipes &c. Floors may consist of a number of such beams laid close together, and the ends 8 of the main bars may project for anchoring the beams.
