Abstract

667,417. Floors and roofs. CHICK, E. D. Nov. 22, 1950. [Aug. 29, 1949] No. 22397/49. Class 20(iv). Floor or roof joists A of buildings are reinforced to distribute impact loads &c, one end of a length of wire D comprising two twisted wires, commencing at an outer joist H, being passed over and under the joist B and round the other outer joist J and returned to the joist H to form a series of cross braces. The wire D, cut and nailed to the joist H, is shortened and placed under tension by twisting the wire, as at upper and lower faces of the joists B and E, after which it is nailed as at F, to the J. Struts C are placed, between the outer joists H, J and the respective adjacent joist B, the struts being omitted if the wire D is passed through anchors provided in the walls of the building.
