Abstract

570,445. Concrete buildings, units. ARMSTRONG, J. C. Aug. 19, 1943, No. 13514. [Classes 20 (iv) and 87 (i)] A concrete unit for use in the construction of the floors, roof and walls of a building, is of channel section and is provided with groups of reinforcing rods 13, 13A, 14, 14A, arranged in mutually transverse groups, pairs 13A, 14A of such rods crossing one another closely around bolt holes 15 adapted, to receive bolts for securing adjacent units together. In the construction shown the longitudinal, rods 13A are arranged in pairs in the rods 11 and form with the four pairs of transverse rods 14A small rectangles in which the bolt holes 15 are located. The units are made in lengths and half lengths and are so assembled in forming a wall, for example, that the joins between the ends of the units in one row are remote from those in the two adjacent rows. Insulating or other material, such as wood straps, may be arranged between the flanges of the units of adjacent rows. As shown in the floor construction, Fig. 5, wood straps 19, 20, between adjacent rows provide securing means for the boarding of a floor 18. In the construction of a roof the rods of the units are uppermost to provide a continuous surface for a covering layer of cement, while the straps 19, 20 between the downwardly projecting flanges have secured to them the plaster boards of the ceiling below.
